  • I want to apply resins, should I remove first my old flooring?

The answer is no. This material is projected precisely to be applied over existing floorings without the need to remove them.

A proper evaluation might be necessary to determine the correct work project and take action where it is necessary in order to level the substrate. Usually these are particular situations such as when tiles are not anchored. Experts in this field are perfectly able to make an inspection and determine possible problematics and they will give you the right advice.

We have installed several resin floorings and wall coverings, where there were problems of adherence of some old tiles or where the substrate had depressions or ares of low adhesion (the typicla “empty sound”).

We are able to determine the most appropriate preliminary treatment before applying the resins you have choosen.

  • Is it true that the floor will be smooth?

The answer is yes. In the application of resins for flooring it is used a self-levelling product, therefore the result is a smooth surface.

  • I happened to observe a few walls on which was applied resin and I noticed backlit, a light effect similar to orange peel. I’d like to know if it is normal or just a defect caused by incorrect application

In fact when resin is applied on walls it is not possible to have the same perfectly smooth effect like on flooring applications. This happens because the installer must use a smaller quantity of material, otherwise it would pour down. In addition if resin is applied with a roller then fur leaves a small mark visible backlit. The solution is the spray application of the transparent coat.

  • Can I apply resin for floorings on ruined stairs?

Resinous material can also be easily installed on treads and risers of the stairs. There are ad-hoc products that can be used for this purpose and the only care needed is to use edge protections for the edges of the steps, as they are at risk.

  • In case of bathroom makeover can I use resins? Could they be damaged by humidity? Can I also use them for shower walls?

Yes, our products are suitable for humid places and are recommended for waterproofing. There is a precise procedure that should be performed in this case, beginning with tests on the substrate (where resins wll be installed). The goal is to find out if this support is humid, if it is, you must first intervene with appropriate products. Once this problem is solved it is possible to apply resin.

Resins make bathroom walls and flooring no more waterproofing.
When renovating a bathroom it will be fine to install resins on flooring and walls, with the exception of the shower tray, that must be in ceramic. We suggest this because collection and outflow water systems specific for resins have not been created yet.

  • Resins are also suitable for furniture coverings?

There are resinous materials that can be used for furniture and furnishing coverings, paying attention to the substrate.

Depending on whether the substrate is made of plastics, wood or ceramics, it will be decided which application process is more suitable. Nowadays furniture in resins are fashionable and popular.

  • I own a home for holidays in the mountains that must be restored and would like to know to what temperature a resin flooring could bear

Resins for floorings and coverings could bear averagely from -30°C to +70°C.

For each application we know which product use and the exact application process for all the situations. It is therefore important the phase of inspection to evaluate both the phases of the poduction process: the product to use and the specific working phases.

  • Which systems are more suitable for the application of resins?

It depends on the type of product it was decided to use or –better saying- better to apply.

Above all it is important to make a distinction between installation made by expert installers and the self-made work.

In case of liquid resins you can work with spray and roller. When working with thixotropic resins you can use a trowel.

In case you decide to purchase the products and try your hand in the application, we suggest to start from a side of the floor that will be covered by furniture so that any imperfections remain hided.

Obviously the best thing to do is to entrust the work to experienced companies that have a specific know-how.

  • If I decide to apply the resin for floorings by myself which technique you recommend?

In this case it is better to use a trowel and the roller. You have to apply a thin coat of product. It is understood that preparatory steps must be carried out, such as finish steps. Better to ask the seller about all the indications on the application methods, the technical information about preparing the substrate and the material itself and follow carefully the directions on the data sheets.

All the Geo Hydrica staff is at your disposal and you can have all the support needed, starting from the choice of the product that better meets your needs.
